commercial office cleaning service

Have you or your office colleagues ever asked any of the following questions?

  • “All the office cleaners seem to do is empty the bins”
  • “There is no attention to detail; there’s dust everywhere”
  • “The toilets are disgusting”

You’re not alone.

Whenever I am asked for a quote for office cleaning services because the office manager is “sick and tired” of cleaners not doing the right thing, they usually make one of the above comments during our discussion.

Here are five reasons why your office cleaning service is below par, and what you can do about it.

  1. They don’t spend the correct time cleaning the office

When you sign an office cleaning contract you should agree on a specific amount of time the cleaners will spend at the clinic.
Too many office cleaners cut corners and don’t spend the required time at your office.
Solution? Ask your security company for a report on the time spent by the cleaner(s) for the past two weeks and do a budget versus actual report for the days the office is cleaned.

  2. Improper training on how to clean an office

It is often assumed that office cleaning staff know how to clean – like it’s part of their DNA! Guess what? It’s not true. Office cleaners must be trained and time spent with all of them to make sure they know how to achieve a clean, dust-free office environment. Ask your provider to show you how they train their cleaners. Bonus tip – Check there is a red mop for toilets and a blue mop for other hard floors.

  3. Poor equipment that cleans ineffectively

Commercial office cleaning requires commercial equipment. If the office cleaners are not using quality tools then their results will be poor. Check the cleaning cupboard and ensure that equipment is properly tagged, and vacuum cleaners are of commercial quality.

  4. No systems. Check sheets must be completed for each and every office cleaning service

People must be accountable for their time or it can be wasted. Time equals money. Your money. Checklists provide clients with proof of service and peace of mind that they are receiving the service to which they have agreed. If your current office cleaner does not have a check sheet on the site, that is completed each service, ask them for one.

  5. No regular auditing

If your office cleaning company doesn’t call you regularly to ask if you are happy with the service, they are probably getting away with something! Offices require high attention to detail and regular auditing. Ensure there is some form of quality assurance in place.
